Two local graduating seniors from Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett have earned Abbot Scholarships to Saint Martin’s University in Lacey. The full-tuition, need-based awards are renewable and honor graduating seniors from Catholic high schools who exemplify faith, reason, service and community.
Esteban Quiyono, of Bothell, has been very involved in Greater Seattle Surf Soccer Club. He is fluent in French and Spanish, and was a member of the Wildcat Band. He plans to take a pre-professional program in medicine.
John Sommer, of Snohomish, played football, volunteered at summer camps, served as a student ambassador, and has played the bagpipes for 10 years. He plans to study mechanical engineering.
Meanwhile, the university also named Jason Fairhurst, a graduating senior from Snohomish High School, as one of its Benedictine Scholars. Benedictine Scholars serve their communities, meet in small groups and work on a project of their cohort’s own choosing. They also receive up to $27,500 in scholarship support each year.
