LAKE STEVENS — A 20-year-old man from Lake Stevens presumably drowned Sunday while swimming at Washaway Beach in Pacific County on the Washington Coast.

The man was identified as Connor K. Le, according to the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office.

Le had been swimming with his friends near Willows Lane shortly before 7 p.m. They had trouble returning to shore because of the tide, according to the sheriff’s office. The friends told a deputy they had tried to help Le, but he was too far away.

A deputy who was in the area kept an eye out for the swimmer until rescue crews arrived. About 20 minutes later, Le went under water, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Coast Guard sent out a helicopter and boat, and searched for Le until 10 p.m. Crews were unable to recover his body because of the currents.

Le had been spending the weekend at a vacation cabin near the beach. He was studying criminal justice at Everett Community College.
