MARYSVILLE — A series of fires in Marysville on Wednesday afternoon is considered suspicious, officials said. No injuries were reported.

As of 4 p.m., flames continued to burn in two spots: an abandoned house along State Avenue and a pile of tires and trash in the woods.

It appears that five fires were set in all, said Christie Veley, a spokeswoman for the Marysville Fire District. The house has been the site of other fires in the recent past, she said.

Marysville police arrested a 38-year-old Marysville woman on suspicion of arson. Investigators believed she acted alone.

“When the officers located her, she had black soot on her face and hands and smelled like smoke,” Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said.
