Carnival starts today

The Smokey Point Carnival starts Friday and runs back-to-back weekends through July 4 at 172nd Street NE and 51st Avenue, next to the Arlington Municipal Airport. The carnival is sponsored by the Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce in the run-up to Arlington’s Fourth of July Frontier Days.

Chime in on roads

A public hearing is planned Monday on Lynnwood’s six-year transportation plan. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The next plan is for 2018-2023. The City Council likely will vote on it in July.

Celebrate diversity

The 44th Legislative District Democrats are hosting an event Saturday evening that focuses on success stories from diverse cultures. The gathering begins at 6 p.m. at 230 Avenue B in Snohomish.

Speakers include Ronda Metcalf, Mohamed Bughara, Rosamaria Graziani and Snohomish County Council candidate Raymond Miller.

Rummage sale

A rummage sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 9320 Meadow Way, Everett. Proceeds benefit local charities.

Several local support groups exist for caregivers, to help those dealing with the challenges of unpaid caregiving. Here are some of them:

Caregivers, Marysville: A Caring for the Caregiver support group meets at 10 a.m. on third Tuesdays at the Ken Baxter Community Center, 514 Delta Ave., Marysville. More info: 360-363-8450.

Alzheimer’s: The Alzheimer’s Association keeps a list of support groups in Arlington, Bothell, Edmonds, Everett, Lynnwood and Snohomish. More info: www.alzwa.org.
