HEADS UP

Watch out for well-worn scam

The jury duty scam is back. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office again is receiving reports that scammers are imitating deputies on the phone. Victims are told they need to pay money to avoid arrest for missed jury duty. Law enforcement and court officials will never ask for personal financial information or your Social Security number over the phone. Report scam calls to your local police department. Be especially wary of any caller who wants you to submit payment by using gift cards or prepaid cash cards.

Island County burn ban

An outdoor burn ban is in effect for Island County starting at noon Friday. No outdoor burning of natural debris is allowed, even with a permit. Some recreational fires are OK in approved fire pits or in the use of camp stoves. The ban is in place until further notice.
