Driftwood’s annual Festival of Shorts is 8 p.m. July 7-8 and 2 p.m. July 8-9. Call for tickets. Eight short plays will be performed. Playwrights are from across the country. The audience helps decide the top play of the festival.

Wooden O/Seattle Shakespeare: The company will perform “Much Ado About Nothing” at 3 p.m. July 9 at Edmonds City Park, Third and Pine. Admission is free. Shakespeare’s screwball comedy features the bantering of two of his cleverest characters. For Beatrice and Benedick, love is a game of wits played with guarded hearts. Yet everyone can see they’re meant for each other. Newly engaged Hero and Claudio conspire to trick the pair into admitting their affections and falling for each other. But schemes are afoot to ruin everyone’s happiness through dire accusations. Will love win in the end?

Last Leaf does Shakespeare: Last Leaf Productions’ 19th season bringing the Bard to the parks features performances of the fast and furious “The Comedy Of Errors.” Free local shows (about an hour long) are set for 5 p.m. July 9, Wagner Performing Arts Center rear lawn, Monroe; 6 p.m. July 15, Arlington’s Terrace Park; 2 p.m. July 16, Mukilteo’s 92nd Street Park; 5 p.m. July 16, Monroe’s Wagner PAC rear lawn; 7:30 p.m. July 20, Mukilteo’s Rosehill Community Center; and 4 p.m. Aug. 6, North Cove Park in Lake Stevens. In the play, Antipholus and his sidekick Dromio find themselves in Ephesus, where people from their hometown, Syracuse, are excluded under pain of death. Unbeknowst to them or anybody else, they both have an identical twin already living in Ephesus, by extraordinary coincidence also named Antipholus and Dromio. Three long-time friends, played by Scott Hibbert, Liam Cole and Robert MacDougall, explore the meaning and impact of “art” when one of the men buys an expensive abstract all-white painting, much to the dismay of the others. Directed by Scott B Randall. Tickets are $12 each.

“Last Romance”: Phoenix Theatre, Tim Noah’s Thumbnail Theater and the Snohomish Theater Project offer this comedy by Joe Pietro at 7:30 p.m. July 15 and 22, and at 4 p.m. July 16 and 23. Directed by Eric Lewis, the cast includes Michael McFadden, Susan Connors, Griffin Price, Melanie Calderwood and Sadie Calderwood. The story involves Ralph, a widower, whose daily walk leads him to a second chance at love.
