Info released on 2 killed in Lynnwood, Gold Bar area wrecks

GOLD BAR — The Snohomish County medical examiner has released information about two men who died in car wrecks on Monday.

Before dawn, a Mazda sedan struck a retaining wall near the intersection of Highway 99 and 52nd Avenue West in Lynnwood. The driver was identified as Jose M. Avalos-Velazquez, 52, of Edmonds. He died from blunt force injuries, according to the medical examiner. His death was ruled an accident.

Later that night, Charles Baughn, 63, was driving on U.S. 2 about six miles east of Gold Bar when he apparently lost control on a curve. His car struck a guardrail and caught fire. He died from blunt force trauma and burns, according to the medical examiner. His death also was ruled an accident.
