Help conserve water

In the summer, household water use can double. To help homeowners conserve water, the city of Everett — which supplies drinking water to 80 percent of Snohomish County — offers the following tips:

Outside

Water early or late, deeply but infrequently, and focus on plant roots

Fix leaks

Use a broom instead of a hose for cleaning

Tune up automatic sprinkler systems

Use shut-off nozzles on hoses

Inside

Take shorter showers

Replace old toilets with high-efficiency models

Fix leaks

Wash full loads of laundry and dishes

Turn off the tap when brushing teeth and washing hands

Use the garbage disposal minimally
