House speaker talks tax reform at Boeing

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., will be at the the Boeing Co. plant in Everett on Thursday morning. He’ll see planes being built then hold a town hall-style chat with workers about Republican plans for overhauling federal tax laws. The event is not open to the public but will be streamed online after 9 a.m. at www.speaker.gov/live, according to Ryan’s staff.

Family dinner in Arlington

A chicken dinner is scheduled to be served Sunday at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd. The dinner raises money for the center. It costs $8 for seniors, $9 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. The meal includes chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, vegetables, a roll and shaved ice for dessert. It’s from noon to 2 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food for the food bank.

Gravesite marker dedication

The Marcus Whitman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, with counterparts from North Dakota, plans to honor a long-departed member with a gravesite ceremony Saturday.

Anyone is welcome to attend the 2 p.m. event for the late Jessie Bearse Fait at Evergreen Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett. Plans include a color guard, plaque dedication and speakers. A reception is planned immediately afterward at The Vintage Cafe at 1510 Hewitt Ave. Fait, who lived from 1885 to 1969, was a DAR member in Everett and in Fingal, North Dakota.

Learn to dance

September offers opportunities to learn a new dance skill.

Swing dance lessons will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Cost is $10, $8 for students.

Square dance clubs offer beginners lessons starting in September and October.

The Fern Bluff Squares (Monroe) classes are from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays starting Sept. 21 at the East County Senior Center, 276 Sky River Parkway. The first lesson is free and includes pizza.

Expect noise from Navy

Naval Station Everett plans a security exercise Thursday morning. All gates will close briefly around 10 a.m. Neighbors may hear simulated gunfire and sirens. The goal is to improve emergency readiness.
