EVERETT — The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office continues to investigate what caused the death of a man at the jail last week.
The man was identified Wednesday as Marcus E. Manning, of Everett. The 35-year-old died Aug. 31 after being arrested by Everett police.
Manning was accused of obstruction and attempting to break into a car. He reportedly struggled with officers.
Manning allegedly continued to resist once at the county jail, according to officials. Jail medical staff was trying to get the man to calm down to monitor his vital signs, said Julie Moore, a spokeswoman for Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team.
Corrections deputies shocked Manning with an electronic stun gun, she said. He was placed in a restraint chair when he continued to resist. Manning became unresponsive. Medical staff was unable to revive him.
The cause and manner of his death are pending further investigation, the medical examiner said Wednesday. Detectives continue to investigate the use of force by officers. That probe will be forwarded to Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Roe.
