GRANITE FALLS — A hiker was rescued after he fell down a gully on Sunday, injuring his head and back.

He was hiking on Vesper Peak, east of Verlot. The man slipped and fell more than 20 feet down a gully, said spokeswoman Courtney O’Keefe of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

His hiking partner walked down the trail and drove several miles to the Verlot Visitor Center to call for help. A helicopter was on its way to the mountain shortly after 2 p.m.

The man was rescued and taken to a hospital, where he was treated for multiple back fractures, O’Keefe said.

The hiker’s age and hometown were not immediately available.
