Slain boy’s uncle charged with his murder

EVERETT — Prosecutors on Thursday filed a first-degree murder charge against the uncle of 6-year-old Dayvid Pakko. The boy’s body was found Tuesday in a trash bin outside a Lynnwood-area apartment.

Andrew Henckel, 19, allegedly told Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives he drowned the first-grader in the family’s bathtub. No motive has been made public. Henckel’s father has disputed the allegations, saying his son, whom he described as autistic, would never hurt anyone.

Dayvid was reported missing Monday evening. A couple of hundred people spent Monday night searching for the boy, who also had been described as mildly autistic.

Henckel joined in that search. He reportedly was left home alone with the boy Monday for about an hour at the Bristol Square Apartments. He told others that when he woke up from a nap Dayvid was gone. He later allegedly told detectives he made a plan to kill the boy, held him under water and then hid the body, according to court records.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release the boy’s cause of death.

Prosecutors filed the murder charge in district court. They have two weeks to refile into Superior Court. Henckel was being held on $1 million bail.
