Marysville’s First Street construction starts Wednesday

MARYSVILLE — Construction is scheduled to begin Wednesday on First Street for a project that will better filter storm water runoff that flows into Ebey Slough — and perhaps make things more pretty, too.
The new bio-retention facilities, going in between State Avenue to east of Cedar Avenue (behind Marysville Town Center Mall), will incorporate landscaping and plants to treat and filter storm water. Crews also will replace about 775 feet of aging cast-iron water main.
The project is similar to one on Third Street that replaced an old water main and added rain gardens to help filtration from State Avenue to 47th Avenue. That project was completed this past spring.
During construction, drivers can expect intermittent single-lane closures with flaggers and potential delays.
Contractor SRV Construction Inc., is building the $911,537 project, about half of which is funded by the state Department of Ecology. Construction should be completed by early 2018.
