Mountlake Terrace holiday kickoff
Mountlake Terrace kicks off the holidays with a tree-lighting ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave. W. The evening features a concert by Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Terrace Park School choir students, a visit from Santa and the traditional lighting of the “tree.”
The tree is actually a frame, set atop the water tower and constructed with more than 1,800 LED lights.
Participants can enjoy free samples of Darigold eggnog and hot chocolate. Tour de Terrace volunteers also will serve cookies and hot coffee.
The event is free, however cash donations will be accepted for the Michelle Ringler Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund at the concession stand.

Lutefisk and meatballs
The Bothell Sons of Norway holds its annual Lutefisk and Meatball Dinner, noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at 23905 Bothell-Everett Highway. Dinner is served family style and includes lutefisk, meatballs, boiled potatoes, coleslaw, lefse and dessert. Cost is $25; $10 ages 12 and younger; free to children younger than 5. Checks or cash only. No reservations required.

Norwegian potluck
Daughters of Norway Thelma Lodge 26 of Everett holds a holiday potluck meeting at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Normanna Lodge, 2725 Oakes Ave. Members are invited to bring a holiday food to share. There will be a raffle and a silent auction of donated and baked goods. Guests are always welcome.

Lighted boat parade
The Mukilteo Yacht Club’s annual Lighted Boat Parade is set for Saturday. Starting at 5:30 p.m., lighted boats from area yacht clubs will parade from the Port of Everett’s North Marina (at 12th Street) to Anthony’s Restaurant in Everett Marina Village, through the main marina, and back.
The parade is held weather permitting and may be canceled in the event of unsafe boating conditions.

See the model trains
The Swamp Creek & Western Railroad Association holds its annual holiday open house, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its home in the former baggage room of the Edmonds Amtrak station, 210 Railroad St., Edmonds. The layout features 400 feet of HO-scale track that passes through miniature towns and detailed scenery.
Small children will have to be lifted up to see the trains. Narrow aisles also can mean limited access for those with disabilities.
Admission is free.

Brain injury talk
The next Sno-Isle Libraries “Issues that Matter” event discusses “Living with Traumatic Brain Injuries,” 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave.
Guest speakers will discuss living with traumatic brain injuries and the experiences of caregivers. The public is invited to come and learn, join the discussion and identify ways to help.
