Free holiday jazz
The Edmonds Community College Soundstation vocal jazz group and the Edmonds-Woodway High School Jazz Big Band will perform at the 88.5 KNKX Holiday Jam and live broadcast, 7 p.m. Monday at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N. LaVon Hardison and her trio headline the free concert. Doors open at 6 p.m. No reservations or tickets are required.
Food donations for Northwest Harvest are requested.

Crime talk with UW
The University of Washington’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offers a free presentation on “The Punishment Fix,” 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. Professor emeritus Ron Hallman speaks on “how our addiction to mass incarceration in response to crime has impacted American society.”

Fold a reindeer
The Stanwood Library’s “Origami Cool Zone” workshop will teach participants how to fold deer and reindeer, 3 p.m. Tuesday. The library is at 9701 271st St. NW. Materials provided.

Trees for salmon
Starting Wednesday, the Adopt A Stream Foundation will again sell “Live and Wild” Holiday Trees for Salmon at its Northwest Stream Center, located in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.
Purchase a 3- to 5-foot Sitka spruce, western red cedar or Douglas fir tree in a pot ($40 to $60). After the holidays, bring it back and the tree will be planted next to local streams to help next year’s salmon runs.
Trees will be for sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, starting this week and continuing through Dec. 24. Also, Stream Center admission is free throughout December. See a trout stream exhibit and stroll on an elevated nature trail.

WAYS TO HELP
Banks battle to benefit food bank
Help crown the “Heavy Weight Champion Against Hunger” in the annual Snohomish Chamber of Commerce Battle of the Banks to Benefit the Bank. Through Jan. 3, member banks will compete to collect donations of money and non-perishable food to benefit the Snohomish Community Food Bank.
Participating banks are Coastal Community Bank, 928 Avenue D; Columbia Bank, 167 Lincoln St.; Opus Bank, 1101 Avenue D; Peoples Bank at Fred Meyer, 2801 Bickford Ave.; and Washington Federal, 620 Second St.

Toy store countdown
Donations will be accepted through Friday for the Marysville Community Food Bank and Toy Store, which serves more than 1,200 local children for the holidays with food, toys and warm coats. Drop-off locations are at businesses and municipal offices throughout the city. Some businesses offer special deals for donations.
Volunteers also are needed to help run the toy store Dec. 11-14.
