ARLINGTON — The Lakewood School District was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after a stranger grabbed a student’s backpack.

The campuses have since re-opened.

A boy was walking to class around 9 a.m. An unknown man in a hooded sweatshirt approached him, according to the Lakewood School District.

The student was able to break away. He told a staff member at Lakewood Middle School what had happened.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies searched the campus and surrounding neighborhood.

Police were expected to stay on the school grounds. However, the sheriff’s office does not believe there is a threat to students.
