Lakewood schools locked down after man grabs student

ARLINGTON — The Lakewood School District was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after a stranger grabbed a student’s backpack.
The campuses have since re-opened.
A boy was walking to class around 9 a.m. An unknown man in a hooded sweatshirt approached him, according to the Lakewood School District.
The student was able to break away. He told a staff member at Lakewood Middle School what had happened.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies searched the campus and surrounding neighborhood.
Police were expected to stay on the school grounds. However, the sheriff’s office does not believe there is a threat to students.
Responding to modified-lockdown at Lakewood MS after student reported an unknown male attempted to grab his backpack between classes. There is an increased police presence on school grounds, but we do not believe there is a threat to student safety at this time.
