WAYS TO HELP
Help cancer patients, families
Magic Shears, at 306 N Olympic Ave. in Arlington, seeks donations through Sunday of lap blankets, hats, activity books, stationary and pens, coloring books, toys and other small items. Monetary donations also are welcome.
Items will be donated to Skagit Valley Hospital Regional Cancer Care Center’s Arlington location for cancer patients and their families, to give them something to do and ways to keep warm this season.
Salon owners Randy and Debbie Howell have held the donation drive for 12 years in memory of their son, Cameron Howell, who died in 2004 at age 26 of a type of skin cancer.

Help cats, or adopt one
The Community Cat Coalition holds its closing “Home for the Holidays” event, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Harbour Pointe Shopping Center, 11706 Mukilteo Speedway, Mukilteo. Purchase wreaths and gifts, donate cat food, have a photo with Santa and meet adoptable kittens and cats.

Assist cancer patients
The Cancer Resource Center at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership seeks volunteers to work weekly four-hour shifts meeting with cancer patients and caregivers to provide support. Drivers also are needed to get cancer patients to treatments and appointments. Volunteers use their own vehicles.

Volunteer at a hospital gift shop
Gift shops at local hospitals raise money for local causes and rely on volunteers.
Monroe: The gift shop at EvergreenHealth Monroe needs reliable volunteers to work three-hour shifts. The gift shop is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. More info: Janie, vghgiftshop@gmail.com.
Everett: The nonprofit Providence General Children’s Association needs volunteers at the Providence Regional Medical Center Pacific and Colby campus gift shops for four-hour shifts, day or evening, two or more times per month.
