Man accused of assault using a metal baton with a sharp end

TULALIP — A man reportedly beat another person with a baton Monday outside a fast-food restaurant on the Tulalip Indian Reservation.

The baton was fashioned with a sharp, metal point on one end, according to a probable cause affidavit.

A passerby noticed three men in front of a McDonalds on 33rd Avenue NE. They allegedly were fighting.

A Tulalip police officer pulled into the parking around 9:45 p.m. One man ran off. The suspect, a 48-year-old Marysville man, began walking away with the baton. The third man, 36, was covering an eye and appeared to be in pain, police said. The injured man alleged he had been punched, hit with a baton and poked in the back with something sharp.

Confirmed information about the extent of his injuries was not immediately available.

An officer instructed the suspect to drop the baton. It wasn’t until the officer pulled his firearm that the man followed the instructions, according to court documents.

The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail. He was held for investigation of first-degree and third-degree assault.
