Gonzales, Vogelbach lead M’s to 4-2 spring win

PEORIA, Ariz. — Starter Marco Gonzales tossed three scoreless innings and Daniel Vogelbach hit a three-run home run as the Seattle Mariners came from behind to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 on Friday afternoon at Maryvale Baseball Park.
Vogelbach hit his first home run of the spring with a one-out blast in the top of the fifth inning that gave the Mariners their first lead of the game at 3-2.
The Mariners continued the scoring in the top of the sixth inning when Gordon Beckham led off the inning with a single and scored on a RBI single by Braden Bishop.
Vogelbach, Beckham and Cameron Perkins each had two of the team’s 10 hits. Guillermo Heredia made his Cactus League debut, walking as a pinch hitter in the seventh and again in the ninth.
Beckham extended his hitting streak to six games, going 2-for-2 with a run scored and a double.
After allowing base hits to the first two batters of the game, Gonzales retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced. Overall, he allowed just three hits while striking out four. Gonzales has tossed five scoreless inning in his first two spring starts.
Left-handed reliever Marc Rzepczynski struggled in the bottom of the fourth inning, allowing two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one. Former Everett AquaSox closer Wyatt Mills recorded his first save with a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out three.
The win snapped the Mariners four-game losing streak and improved their record to 3-5-1 this spring.
