EVERETT — Everett firefighters have raised more than $100,000 in an effort to fight blood cancer, leading the pack of a fundraising race in Seattle that draws fire departments from around the United States.

Fifty-four Everett firefighters are preparing to climb the 69 flights of stairs at the Columbia Center on Sunday, for the 27th annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb. The event raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The goal is to find a cure for blood cancer. This year, Everett has rallied around Capt. Mike Lande and his daughter, Emma, 17, a senior at Snohomish High School. She was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma.

On Friday, Team Emma surpassed $100,000, the top among firefighting teams around the country. Hundreds of departments participate each year, hustling up 788 vertical feet in heavy fire and breathing gear.
