MARYSVILLE — A man threw rocks at a passing semi truck on I-5, ran across the freeway, then pulled a knife on a Marysville police officer Friday afternoon before he was arrested.

The man threw the rock from the freeway shoulder around 2:40 p.m. and struck the semi truck, leaving a baseball-sized crack in the windshield and splintered glass on the dashboard, Marysville police Cmdr. Mark Thomas said. The driver wasn’t hurt.

A state Department of Transportation worker stopped traffic so police could race after the man, who crossed three lanes of southbound I-5 near the 156th Street NE overpass, Thomas said.

During the chase, the man pulled a knife on the officer, according to police. No officers were hurt. The man, 53, suffered a minor bite from a police dog.

He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of third-degree assault, second-degree malicious mischief and reckless endangerment.
