Library update provided

The city of Everett has wrapped up a cost review for the paused plans to expand the Evergreen Branch of the Everett Public Library. Tweaks to the designs should save about $500,000, the City Council was told Wednesday.

The updated proposal is supposed to come back to the council again later this year, for bidding and then a construction contract. The price tag before the review was an estimated $8.6 million.

Cool grant for Camano A/C

The Camano Center is now the largest building on Camano Island to have air conditioning. The community and senior center, which already has served as an emergency Red Cross shelter, can now also be a place for people to shelter from heat waves. A recent $38,500 grant from the Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound allowed the nonprofit to replace its aging furnaces with furnaces featuring air conditioning.

Employees and retirees from Boeing are invited to see how the grant is making a difference at an open house, 4 to 6 p.m. April 22 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road.
