Several Christian groups plan events for the National Day of Prayer on Thursday . Among them:
Stanwood: 12-1:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Haggen Food & Pharmacy, 26603 Lindstrom Road;
Bothell: 12-1 p.m. at Cedar Park Church, 16300 112th Ave. NE;
Maltby: 12-1 p.m. at Maltby Area Community Park, 21815 Highway 9 SE, Woodinville;
Monroe: 7-8:15 p.m. at Cascade Community Church, 14377 Fryelands Blvd. SE;
Sultan: 12-1 p.m. in front of Sultan City Hall, 319 Main St.

Restore old photos
Learn how to use a computer program to restore or touch up aging or damaged photos at a workshop set for 10 a.m. May 12 at the Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W. Registration is required.

Make a rain barrel
Sign up to build a rain barrel at a “Make it, Take it” workshop, 10 a.m. May 12. Everett Public Works will supply the barrels, parts and tools. The $40 fee covers the price of the 55-gallon barrel and parts.

$15 pet adoptions
The NOAH Center celebrates its 15th anniversary with $15 adoptions of cats and dogs older than 6 months, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 12 at 3100 Brandstrom Road, Stanwood. The celebration includes live music, shelter tours and treats.

WAYS TO HELP
Help pipers’ trip
The Northwest Junior Pipe Band, featuring elementary to high school students from around the region who play bagpipes, drums and fiddles, is holding “A Celtic Celebration” benefit concert, 7 p.m. May 12 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N. Tickets are $25 to $100. Proceeds benefit the group, which is preparing for a return in 2020 to the World Pipe Band Championships Scotland to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Help give hope
Gold Creek Community Foundation holds its annual Day(s) of Hope May 19 and 20 at sites across Snohomish County. Projects include car repairs, haircuts and serving meals. Volunteers welcome.

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County plans its annual Handbag Auction and Luncheon for June 7. Donations of new handbags and centerpieces are needed. Sponsors are welcome.

The USO Northwest’s Sea-Tac Airport Center is the nation’s busiest and is one of only a handful open around the clock every day of the year. More volunteers are needed to help staff shifts. Sign up at volunteers.uso.org.
