Roger Gable was honored by Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring as the city’s Volunteer of the Month at the June 11 meeting of the Marysville City Council.

Gable is the owner of Gable Piano in Everett. After the shooting at Florida’s Stoneman Douglas High School in February, he paid for newspaper ads and raised more than $12,000 so five local students and two chaperones could attend the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C. He also supported two local events in Marysville by donating use of his sound system.

He was nominated for the award by Jim Strickland, a teacher at Marysville Pilchuck High School, and Rebecka Thoms, mother of a Marysville Getchell High School student, Bailey, who benefited from the D.C. trip.

“To see so many people standing up for one case was really inspiring for those kids and none of it would have happened if not for Roger,” Thoms wrote in her nomination.
