Party in the Parks
Mill Creek will host three neighborhood Party in the Parks events this summer. The first is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Buffalo Park, 13401 44th Ave. SE. Others are set for Aug. 21 at Heron Park (2701 155th St. SE) and Sept. 18 at Cougar Park (3221 148th St. SE). There will be activities and games. The local Lions Club will offer food for purchase.

Hip hop in the library
Author and professor Daudi Abe will share “Emerald Street: Race, Class, Culture and the History of Hip Hop in the Northwest,” 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Mariner Library, 520 128th St. SW in south Everett.
Abe will explore how Northwest hip hop is “a living document of our region’s social and political movements, styles, energies, and ideologies.”

Rucker brothers history talk
The Lake Stevens Historical Society is hosting a presentation about the Rucker brothers and how they influenced the history of Lake Stevens and Everett. Guest speaker Linda Ehmen, a former associate professor and museum professional, will speak after the society’s general meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lake Stevens School District Service Center, 12309 22nd St. NE. Admission is free. The historical society also will have artifacts from the old Rucker Mill on display.

Learn about Centennial Trail’s history
Centennial Trail History Day is planned Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with activities for kids, interactive exhibits and a chance to touch pieces of history. It’s free and open to everyone.
The popular recreational trail originated as a rail line to deliver lead-silver ore to Everett in the 1890s as part of the great gold and silver rush.
The Snohomish County Historic Preservation Commission planned the upcoming event. The attractions are to be staged at six spots along the 30-mile line: Nakashima Barn, 32328 Highway 9, Arlington; Legion Memorial Park, 114 N. Olympic Ave., Arlington; Bryant, 26804 Highway 9, Arlington; Lake Stevens at 13205 20th St. NE; Machias, 1624 Virginia St., Snohomish; and downtown Snohomish at Pine and Maple avenues.

OPPORTUNITY
Learn water bath canning
Washington State University Skagit County Extension will offer a class on water bath canning, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Arlington Library, 135 N Washington Ave. Space is limited.
Registration is required. The class will include instruction on selection of produce and preparation of jams, jellies, canned fruits, and tomatoes.
