1. Keep moving.
If you’re middle-aged it’s not too late to get fit.
A recent study found that if you’re active ages 45 to 65, you’re less likely to be depressed or die from heart disease when you’re older.
Here are a few tips from Leslie Barker, a health writer for the Dallas Morning News.
Try starting each morning with jumping jacks — five the first day, 10 the next and so on — to rev up your metabolism for the day.
Find exercises that you like. Maybe it’s swimming, running on the treadmill, or taking your dog around the block a few times. Make the routine last for about 30 minutes or more.
Finally, find a fitness buddy. If someone expects you to be at the park for morning exercise, you’re more likely to follow through.
Plus, conversation help make workouts more bearable.
2. Cool down.
Imagine it’s a really hot day. You’re back from a workout, sitting on the couch, but you forgot to turn on the air conditioning.
Bummer.
New voice-controlled air conditioners made by GE Appliances has you covered. The window-mounted unit follows verbal commands to keep you cool. Just tell your device “Set living room AC to cooling.”

3. Sound off.
MoPOP is on the search for the next great band.
The Museum of Pop Culture at Seattle Center is asking groups or solo musicians of all genres from around the Puget Sound region to submit original material for Sound Off! The 21-and-under competition supports local acts with an opportunity to showcase their music.
Twelve bands will perform live at MoPOP next year. Submissions are due Oct. 15.
