Mill Creek fixing sinking road
The city of Mill Creek has planned a ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday for its project to fix a sagging stretch of 35th Avenue SE, where a contractor began work last month.
It’s planned for 10 a.m. on the east side of the road, across from 144th Street SE.
State lawmakers and city officials are expected to attend.
The road is closed between 139th Street SE and 144th Street SE.
Construction is expected to mostly wrap up and the road to reopen in December, though final paving might not occur until the following spring. The project has a $5.3 million budget.

MEETING
Give your opinion on waterfront ideas
Edmonds will hold a public meeting to discuss two looks for a new service road that will provide both emergency and pedestrian access to the city’s waterfront over the railroad tracks. The meeting is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Brackett Room of Edmonds City Hall.
The “waterfront connector,” budgeted at $30 million, will begin at the intersection of Edmonds Street and Sunset Avenue, span the railroad tracks, then turn and lead down to the Brackett’s Landing North parking lot. After earlier public input, the city has come up with two alternatives, dubbed the “land bridge” and the “promenade.”

Explore the arboretum
Summer Fest is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens, located at Everett’s Legion Park, 145 Alverson Blvd. Free. Spend the afternoon listening to music, playing games, making art and exploring the gardens. Several family-friendly organizations will be represented.

Gold Dust Days to be held this weekend
The Gold Dust Days heritage festival is set for Friday to Sunday in Gold Bar. Find a street fair, food vendors, live music, kids activities and a classic car show. The parade starts at 10 a.m. down Main Street.

Monroe historic homes
The Monroe Historical Society holds the Historic Homes Tour, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit. Seven homes are on the tour, including the 1928 Dishmaker house, an English Tudor style home. Start the self-guided tour at the 1908-built Monroe City Hall Building and Historic Museum, 207 E Main St. Tickets are $15.

Make a banana piano
Kids ages 10 and older are invited to “Makey-Makey Rocks,” 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Stanwood Library. Music, electronics and art collide at this free event. Make a banana piano, turn anything into a drum, jam with orchestral musicians or draw a picture that sings. Registration required.
