Horse show free to attend
The C-Fair Charity Horse Show starts Thursday and lasts through Sunday at the equestrian pavilion of the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. The show is free to attend. Participant registration fees benefit Seattle Children’s. The show is put on by the Morgan Horse Club of Washington State.

Volunteer to scrub pups
The Camano Animal Shelter Association seeks volunteers who love dogs to help with its annual Dog Wash on Aug. 18. Dog washers and dryers are needed. Experienced volunteers will be there to help first-timers.

Make blankets for kids
The Binky Patrol, a group of quilters, knitters and crocheters who make “binkies” for children in traumatic situations, seeks volunteers and donations of fabric, yarn or thread. The group meets next on Aug. 5 (first Sunday, second Sunday if a holiday) in Marysville.

Project Linus also makes quilts and blankets to donate to Snohomish County kids who have experienced traumatic life events. The next Project Linus event is set for 12:30-2:30 p.m. Aug. 14 (second Tuesday) at the Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave. Materials and equipment are provided. Bring a sewing machine if you have one.

Sponsors needed for DVS benefit
Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County will hold its annual Hope Within Luncheon at noon Oct. 4 in downtown Everett. Jackson Katz will be the keynote speaker.

HEADS UP
Grand Avenue work delayed
The construction schedule for a pedestrian and utility bridge from Grand Avenue Park to the Everett waterfront is being delayed. Some of the steel pieces are taking longer than expected to arrive, city officials said. Other parts of the project continue.
The new opening date is set for early 2020, about a year later than originally planned.
