The Everett Silvertips signed their top pick in the 2018 WHL Draft on Tuesday, announcing that the club reached terms with defenseman Olen Zellweger on a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

Zellweger was selected in the second round of May’s draft (42nd overall) out of OHA Edmonton Bantam Prep in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSBHL).

A native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Zellweger led OHA Bantam Prep in scoring among defensemen and helped the club to a league title.

Zellweger is the second member of the Silvertips’ 2018 draft class to sign, joining defenseman Ty Gibson.

“Olen has progressed into a terrific prospect and we’re thrilled he has chosen the Everett Silvertips and the Western Hockey League as the next step of his career,” Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson said in a team press release. “We look forward to his contributions as he continues to develop.”
