Chef wants you to quit putting junk in your kid’ school lunch

1.Pack healthy.
Don’t send your kid to school with junk food for lunch.
Chef Zipora Eina, author of “Recipe for a Delicious Life,” has a few suggestions for packing nutritious lunches on a budget.
Get baked vegetable chips or sweet potato fries instead of potato chips. Whole wheat crackers such as Wheat Thins or Breton are good, too.
Another tip: Bake your own chicken fingers or roast slices for a sandwich on whole wheat bread.
Include seasonal fruit such as apples, pears and strawberries.

2.Take flight.
A Novel Affair, a new Friends of the Everett Public Library fundraiser, is 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 22 at the library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett.
The theme, “Take flight,” is a whimsical nod to Everett’s aviation culture and the celebration of learning and imagination that takes place at the library.
Proceeds from the event — which will include live music, appetizers and a silent auction — will raise funds for special programs and services.
Advance tickets are $35 or $40 at the door. More at www.epls.org/friends.
3.Wear jeans.
Nothing quite captures American style like a good pair of jeans.
But, before Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss designed the first pair of “blue jeans” in 1873, denim pants were typically worn by men who required rugged workwear and called “waist overalls.” Fast-forward 150 years: Research shows that denim plays a central role in a woman’s life.
A #WeAreTallJeans survey of more than 3,000 women worldwide found that:
A quarter of women wear jeans every single day. Nearly half of women own three to five pairs, while 25 percent have six to nine pairs in their closets. Thirty percent would wear black skinny jeans on a first date.
Forty-two percent of the women surveyed say trends lead them to buy a new pair of jeans each season.
