Silvertips drop season opener to Giants

LANGLEY, British Columbia — James Malm scored twice and David Tendeck stopped 30 shots as the Vancouver Giants beat the Everett Silvertips 3-1 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
In the opening period, the Giants took the lead when Owen Hardy snuck a shot past Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf at 7:52. Martin Fasko-Rudas pulled Everett even with a power-play goal at 15:01.
Vancouver went back on top 2-1 on a goal from Malm late in the second.
The Giants put the game away when Malm netted his second goal with time running out in the third period.
Wolf finished with 20 saves for the Silvertips.
The two teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday as the Silvertips return to Everett for their home opener at Angel of the Winds Arena.
