Learn to square dance
The Happy Hoppers Square Dance Club offers a free beginner square dance lesson Monday. Subsequent lessons will cost $6 each and be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays. The lessons continue for 16 weeks at the Totem Middle School cafeteria, 1605 Eighth St. NE, Marysville.

Make a carnivorous terrarium
Adults and kids ages 8 and older can make carnivorous terrariums at the Mukilteo Library this month. The bug-eating plants are limited, and registration is required. Two sessions are offered: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 6 or Oct. 20. The library is at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

Free pet microchips
The Camano Animal Shelter will offer free cat and dog microchip services, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at 198 Can Ku Road, Camano Island. Dogs must be on a leash with a collar. Cats must arrive in a carrier. Animals must be at least two pounds, two months old and able to be handled.

Monster Mad Dash for schools
The Foundation for Edmonds School District is having a Monster Mad Dash 5k at 8 a.m. Oct. 6 at the Alderwood mall. Costumes are encouraged. Register to participate or donate to your favorite school team at foundationesd.org/celebrate-schools-5k.

Hope Within Luncheon
Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County’s annual Hope Within Luncheon is at noon Oct. 4 at the Angel of the Winds Arena-Hansen Conference Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave, Everett. The keynote speaker is educator, filmmaker and author Jackson Katz, whose Mentors in Violence Prevention program is used by the U.S. military and various sporting organizations. KING 5 news anchor and reporter Amity Addrisi will emcee. Tickets are $20.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s
The Snohomish County Walk to End Alzheimer’s is at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 6 at Boxcar Park, 615 13th St., Everett. The 2-mile walk begins with a ceremony honoring those who have been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. Kid- and pet-friendly. Registration is free, but fundraising is required.
