See model train layout

The Swamp Creek & Western Railroad Association holds its annual holiday open house, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 1, at its home in the former express baggage room of the Edmonds Amtrak station, 210 Railroad St., Edmonds. The layout features 400 feet of track that passes through miniature towns and detailed scenery.

Parents and guardians must maintain a presence with their children while visiting. Narrow aisles can present limited ADA access. Admission is free.

Attend Lake Stevens Dickens Fair

The event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at Cavelero Mid High School, 8220 24th St. SE, Lake Stevens. Make a monetary or nonperishable food donation. Shop from 100 craft vendors to complete your holiday shopping and listen to caroling performances throughout the day.

See ‘The Crucible’

Snohomish High School plans a production of Arthur Miller’s classic play “The Crucible.” Dates include Nov. 30, Dec. 1, Dec 7 and Dec. 8. General admission is $12, with lower prices for seniors and students. Tickets are available online. The show has some mature themes and is recommended for high school students and adults. The venue is the Snohomish High School Performing Arts Center at 1316 Fifth St.

HEADS UP

Night work coming to South Evergreen Way

Starting Monday , crews are scheduled to replace a water main in the northbound lanes of Evergreen Way from Holly Drive to East Casino Road. Work will occur after 10 p.m. and will close the two outside lanes. The project is anticipated to last until mid-February.

Retired? You can volunteer

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), sponsored by Catholic Community Services, seeks people ages 55 and older for volunteer positions, such as drivers, peer-to-peer counselors, student mentors, food bank workers and more. Volunteer locations are across the county with varying days and times of commitment.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness in Snohomish County offers local support groups, including for family and friends of those living with mental illness.

Lost a loved one to suicide?

A Survivors of Suicide Loss support group meets 6-8 p.m. fourth Thursdays at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW. The group is hosted by the SC Community Action for those who have lost someone from suicide.
