Caroling contest coming to Edmonds

A Jingle Those Bells Caroling Contest will return to downtown Edmonds from 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Red Twig outdoor patio on Fifth Avenue South. Amateur singers, wannabe singers and even not-so-great singers will compete in this lighthearted contest. To participate, send an email to Royce Napolitino at royce.napolitino@edmondswa.gov by noon Dec. 14. Include the number of carolers in your group, two carols you plan to sing, and your group’s stage name.

Other holiday activities in Edmonds include a free holiday trolley, Holiday Market, free kids movies and more.

Holiday fun at the Arboretum

The Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens had a few seats left in one of its holiday workshops for children ages 6-10 with their parents, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Cost is $10, or free for members. Reservations required. The workshop will be held in Legion Hall at Legion Memorial Park, 145 Alverson Blvd.

Learn more about China

International scholar Lance Rhoades will offer a look at China’s culture, past and present at 5 p.m. Monday at the Arlington Library, 135 N Washington Ave. Rhoades will share his experiences working at universities in China’s two largest cities: Beijing and Shanghai. Registration is encouraged.

Tour of Lights

The annual Tour of Lights will run from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-15 and Dec. 19-22 at Cedarcrest Golf Course, 6810 84th St. NE, Marysville. Hop aboard the Rotary Club’s holiday train for a 20-minute tour of light displays. Enjoy a bonfire, hot cocoa, live music and more. The city-sponsored event is free, but donations are accepted. Suggested donation is $5, $3 kids, or $20 per family.

Write for voters pamphlet

The Arlington School District seeks applicants for committees to write pro and con statements for the Snohomish County voters pamphlet about the Feb. 12 bond measure. Send your name, address, phone number and position on the bond proposal by Sunday to Brian Lewis at blewis@asd.wednet.edu or 315 N French Ave., Arlington, WA 98223. The school board will take action Monday.

Marysville ramp closures

The new interchange at I-5 and 116th Street NE has mostly debuted, but a long task list still remains. Contractor crews working for the Tulalip Tribes need to remove some poles during a pair of ramp closures. The southbound I-5 off-ramp to 116th Street NE is slated to close 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. The 116th Street NE on-ramp to northbound I-5 is slated to close 9 p.m. Dec. 13 to 6 a.m. Dec. 14.
