Recycle Christmas trees at EvCC
Everett Community College is recycling Christmas trees for free Jan. 2-31.
Trees can be dropped off between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays. Trees must be free of decorations, tinsel and other non-biodegradable materials. No flocked trees will be accepted. The college is at 2000 Tower St. Drop off trees in the marked area in parking lot F.
The college has been recycling holiday trees since 2009. Last year, more than 200 trees were turned into wood chips to use for campus flower beds and mulch.

Arlington Santa Run breaks record
The city of Arlington’s annual Santa Run brought in a record-breaking 11,684 pounds of food and close-to-a-record $1,915 in donations to the Arlington Food Bank.
The Santa Run is a 29-year-old tradition that runs for 10 nights in December to bring Santa and a bit of holiday cheer to the community. The Arlington Fire Department escorts Santa through the city on a decorated fire engine.

Scouts will take your live Christmas tree
As a service project, Boy Scout Troop 29 will collect live Christmas trees in Arlington neighborhoods on Jan. 5.
If you received a flier, please place your tree near the curb in front of your home by 9 a.m. that day. Trees must be free of all decorations, tinsel and stands.
You can also drop off your tree beginning Jan. 1 until 2 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Legion Park parking lot, 114 N. Olympic Ave., in the designated area.
Donations may be placed in an envelope and attached to your tree or send to: Boy Scout Troop 29, 20902 67th Ave. NE #195, Arlington, WA 98223.

Everett Transit fares increasing in 2019
Starting Jan. 1, adult fares and paratransit rides will rise to $1.50. Fares for youth, seniors and people with disabilities will increase to $0.50.
Costs for adult and paratransit riders are set to rise again in July.
Several routes are being reconfigured next year, including the elimination of Route 17. Those changes are coming in March.

Volunteer with shelters
The Arlington Emergency Cold Weather Shelter is in need of volunteers and donations of supplies.
Needs include food, socks, toiletries, clothing, blankets, pillowcases or money.
Volunteers chaperone sleeping guests. There are different shifts through the night. Volunteers are also needed to provide and serve a light evening meal and breakfast, and to clean. For details, call Pastor Deena Jones at 360-435-3259.
The all-volunteer group operates the shelter from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. when the forecast calls for temperatures at or below freezing. The location rotates between churches. Call 360-403-4674 for site information.
