A special day?

Today is Galentine’s Day, a celebration of female friendship the day before Valentine’s Day. It stems from a 2010 episode of the TV sitcom “Parks and Recreation” and has since become an international holiday for women and their BFFs. Happy Galentine’s Day cards and chocolates are available to give your bestie.

Go fish

The Fly Fishing Show is Feb. 16 and 17 at Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW. It has vendors, demonstrations and seminars and door prizes include fishing trips, clothing, gear and tackle.

Admission is $15 daily or $25 for both days. Children 6 to 12 get in for $5, and those 5 and under are free. Free for Boy and Girl Scouts under 16 in uniform. Scouts can earn credits toward a fly-fishing merit badge. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Pacific Northwest premiere of the 2019 International Fly-fishing Film Festival is 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

Winner winner

The Stillaguamish Senior Center chicken dinner for all ages is noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 17 at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington. Menu includes roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, coleslaw, roll and a pudding dessert. Live music by The Sensations.

Cost is $10 for adults, seniors $8, and children under 12 are $5. Proceeds benefit the center. Canned goods for food bank are welcome.

Comic books

“Sequential Reaction: A History of the American Comic Book” is Feb. 19 to March 14, at the Russell Day Gallery, Everett Community College, 2000 Tower St. The show uses digital images, original-art pages, production art, prints and more to showcase the development of the 20th-century American art form.

An opening reception is 12:30-2:20 p.m. Feb. 28 at the gallery. There will be a talk, “Superhero America: The Comic Book Character as Historical Lens,” by T. Andrew Wahl, EvCC faculty member and curator of the show, from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. Feb. 26 in Gray Wolf Hall 382. The free gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday; closed Saturday and Sunday.

MEETING

The Everett Planning Commission will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in the City Council chambers to offer a public workshop about potential changes to the Riverfront redevelopment plan, especially the former landfill property. A decision is likely to follow in March.
