The National Weather Service has designated April 3 as Selfie Safe Place Day.

Take a selfie to post with the hashtag #SafePlaceSelfie for extreme weather preparedness so others will know ahead of time where your safe place is located. The Washington theme is for tsunamis.

Garden together

A food bank garden work party is planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Julia V. Morris Centennial Garden serving the Sky Valley Food Bank. The location is 233 Sky River Parkway.

Birthday party

The city of Lynnwood’s 60th birthday celebration includes a ribbon cutting for a new playground at Heritage Park.

The event is set for 4:30 to 7 p.m. April 23. An open house of the Wickers Building starts at 5 p.m.

Enjoy a musical jam

Enjoy an evening of old-time music with fiddle, guitar, banjo and more with the Washington Old Time Fiddlers, 5 p.m. second and fourth Fridays at the Sisco Heights Community Club, 13527 99th Ave. NE, Arlington. There’s a Celtic jam at 5 p.m., workshop at 6 p.m., and circle jam at 7 p.m. Musicians are welcome, or just come and enjoy the music.

Charitable sewing projects

Sewers gather two Saturdays a month at an Everett church to work on charitable projects. Help make hospital gowns and butterfly pillows for hospitals and care facilities at 9 a.m. second Saturdays. Help make reusable personal sanitary kits for girls in underserved countries through Days for Girls at 9 a.m. third Saturdays. Both are held at Bethel Baptist Church, 2625 Hoyt Ave., Everett.

Volunteer at a hospital gift shop

Gift shops at local hospitals raise money for local causes and rely on volunteers.

Monroe: The gift shop at EvergreenHealth Monroe needs reliable volunteers to work three-hour shifts. The gift shop is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. More info: Janie, vghgiftshop@gmail.com.

Everett: The nonprofit Providence General Children’s Association needs volunteers at the Providence Regional Medical Center Pacific and Colby campus gift shops for four-hour shifts, day or evening, two or more times per month. Gift shop proceeds benefit Northwest children in need. Must complete hospital volunteer forms, TB test, background check and training.
