Outer space paintings
Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to learn about deep space photography and create their own galaxy painting from 2 to 3 p.m. July 17 at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo. This is a free event.

Go ham — on ham radio
The Amateur Radio Field Day will take place Saturday and Sunday at Lake Tye Park, 14964 Fryelands Blvd., Monroe.
It’s a chance for the public to learn about the ham radios from amateur enthusiasts, who will be setting up temporary transmitting stations for the whole weekend.
“Ham radio functions completely independent of the internet or cell phone infrastructure … and can be set up almost anywhere in minutes,” said American Radio Relay League spokesman David Isgur. “Hams can literally throw a wire in a tree for an antenna, connect it to a battery-powered transmitter, and communicate halfway around the world.”

Science of Bubbleology
Ever built a bubble wall using a pulley system? Maybe you want to be the next Picasso and make a bubble paint masterpiece. These things and more bubble-related wonders are possible at the free Science of Bubbleology event, starting at 2 p.m. June 29, at the main Everett Library building, 2702 Hoyt Ave. Recommended for ages 5 to 12.

Comment on Baker Heights development
People will have a chance Thursday to provide their thoughts on the new development at the former Baker Heights affordable housing site in Everett.
The Everett Housing Authority, as well as architects from Seattle-based firm GGLO, will accept input on building design from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Baker Heights Community Center, 1401 Poplar St., Everett.
Until last year, the property was the site of a former military barracks that was repurposed into 244 units of affordable housing. They’ll be replaced by up to 200 mixed-income units, the housing authority said last year. The agency expects to break ground on the project as early as the beginning of 2020.

Movies in the Park
Watch movies and enjoy the summer air at the Snohomish Movies in the Park series, starting July 26. Pack a blanket or a low-back lawn chair and a picnic. There will be a concessions stand.
The movies start around 9:30 p.m. at the Snohomish Boys & Girls Club, 402 Second St. These are free events.
The schedule is: July 26, “How to Train your Dragon: The Hidden World;” Aug. 2, “Wonder Park; Aug. 9, The Little Rascals.”
The Snohomish Youth Council also is hosting a movie in the park at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 16, at Pilchuck Park, 169 Cypress Ave. The movie will be “Captain Marvel.” Admission is two canned food items.
