The Athlete of the Week nominees for April 26-May 2. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll. Last week’s winner is included below.

Alexis Slater | Mariner | Softball
Slater, a junior, needed just three games to record 51 strikeouts as she helped the Marauders to a perfect 3-0 mark during the week. Slater’s most dominant performance came in a two-hit shutout against Lynnwood on April 21 when she struck out 21 batters. She won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for April 19-25 by claiming 604 of 2,400 (25.2%) votes.

Ben Borgida | Shorewood | Boys golf
Borgida, a junior, fired a 3-under-par 30 to earn medalist honors during a five-team match at Nile Shrine Golf Course on April 28.
Sean Cochran | Lake Stevens | Boys track and field
Cochran, a junior, won the 110-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and was a member of the Vikings’ victorious 4×400 relay team in a meet against Monroe on April 29. Cochran’s personal-best times of 14.76 seconds in the 110 hurdles and 40.1 seconds in the 300 hurdles are good for second and fourth, respectively, among all Class 4A competitors in the state, according to Athletic.net.
Cole Cramer | Arlington | Baseball
Cramer, a senior, went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, four RBI and four runs scored in the Eagles’ 19-1 win over Marysville Pilchuck on April 30. He also drove in three runs and picked up a save over two games against Stanwood earlier in the week.
Charlotte Giffin | Cedarcrest | Girls golf
Giffin, a sophomore, earned medalist honors with an 8-over-par 62 during a five-team match at Battle Creek Golf Course on April 27.
Anna Kowalchyk | Snohomish | Girls tennis
Kowalchyk, a junior, outlasted Jackson’s Naisha Sinha in a three-set match that lasted 2 hours, 30 minutes and ultimately earned the Panthers a team victory in showdown between unbeaten squads on April 27. Kowalchyk won the No. 3 singles match 0-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. She followed that performance with a 6-3, 4-6, 3-2 victory in the No. 3 singles match against Lake Stevens to help the undefeated Panthers earn another 4-3 win.
Ansley Lalone | Stanwood | Girls tennis
Lalone, a junior, came back to win the No. 1 singles match 4-6, 7-6(6), 12-10 to help the Spartans beat Glacier Peak 5-2 on April 27.
Kiana Lino | Shorecrest | Girls track and field
Lino, a senior, won the shot put and discus competitions during a meet against Mariner on April 29. Lino’s mark of 43 feet, 4.5 inches in the shot put leads all Class 3A competitors in the state this season, according to Athletic.net. She’s also second among 3A athletes in the discus.
Remy Heckman | Edmonds-Woodway | Baseball
Heckman, a senior, went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in, three stolen bases and struck out two while pitching a perfect seventh inning as Edmonds-Woodway beat Lake Stevens 5-1 on April 30. He also went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and earned a save on the mound in the Timberwolves’ 7-4 win over Cedarcrest on April 26.
Makayla Miller | Glacier Peak | Softball
Miller, a senior, went 9-for-9 with four doubles and two home runs on the week to help the Grizzlies earn three victories. On April 28, Miller blasted a walk-off two-run home run and tossed a shutout, striking out 12, in the circle as Glacier Peak beat Cascade 2-0.
Allison Naumann | Snohomish | Girls track and field
Naumann, a senior, posted the top mark among all Class 3A athletes in the state in the triple jump during a meet against Everett on April 29. Naumann recorded a triple jump of 35 feet, 11.75 inches.
Yanina Sherwood | Jackson | Softball
Shrewood, a freshman, tossed a one-hitter and struck out 18 batters in a 4-0 win over Everett on April 26. She followed that performance by striking out 15 in a two-hit shutout as the Timberwolves topped previously unbeaten Marysville Pilchuck 6-0.
Nathan Simicich | Glacier Peak | Boys track and field
Simicich, a junior, won the shot put and discus events in a meet against Stanwood on April 29. Simicich’s heave of 46 feet, 6 inches at the event is the best mark among all Wesco 4A competitors this season, according to Athletic.net. He also leads Wesco 4A in the discus with a league-best 144-foot throw.
Charlie Soukup | Kamiak | Boys soccer
Soukup, a senior, netted goals in the 62nd and 63rd minutes as Kamiak rallied back from a two goal deficit in the second half to hand Shorewood its first loss of the season on April 27. Soukup’s first goal tied the game and his second was the game-winner. Soukup also scored a goal in the Knights’ 3-0 win over Mariner on April 30.
Casen Taggart | Everett | Baseball
Taggart, a senior, hit a triple, a home run and drove in four runs as Everett beat Archbishop Murphy 17-6 on April 26.
