Encouraging girls hasn’t hurt boys’ education

Regarding Kathleen Parker’s column “It’s no wonder boys aren’t going to college” on Monday, Oct. 4, we disagree with Parker’s theory that feminist advances have left men sidelined.

What’s at the heart of this problem is that the push to make children read in kindergarten has been especially hard on many boys, who simply aren’t ready. This sets up a failure syndrome that is difficult to shake.

We agree with Parker’s idea that young boys’ behavior hasn’t been as accepted during the past 30 years, but it’s not because of Title IX or girls believing they can be winners.

Let’s stop pushing academics in kindergarten and even pre-k.

We bet the results would be significant.
