The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 11-17. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Leia Jones | Stanwood | Girls cross country

Jones, a senior, won the girls varsity silver race at the 38th annual Hole in the Wall Invitational on Oct. 9 at Lakewood High School. She finished the 5,000-meter race 26.5 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor with a personal-best time of 18 minutes, 50.4 seconds. Jones has won seven of the nine races she’s competed in this season. She won the voting for the week of Oct. 4-10 by claiming 1,624 (38.5%) of 4,217 votes.

Isabella Christensen | Lake Stevens | Volleyball

Christensen, a junior, posted 14 kills and two blocks to help Lake Stevens stay unbeaten with a victory in four sets over Jackson on Oct. 13.

Mia Grove | Monroe | Girls swim and dive

Grove, a senior, swam the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 3.36 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:34.8 for a pair of first-place finishes in a meet against Everett on Oct. 12. Grove also helped the Bearcats’ 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams to wins.

Jackson Hammons | Kamiak | Boys cross country

Hammons, a senior, finished in first place at the five-team Mukilteo Championships meet on Oct. 14 at McCollum Park. He finished the three-mile race in 15 minutes, 40.2 seconds.

Bella Nguon | Everett | Girls soccer

Nguon, a sophomore, netted a hat trick and added an assist in the Seagulls’ 7-1 win over Lynnwood on Oct. 14.

Henry Park | Jackson | Boys tennis

Park, a sophomore, went 2-0 last week in No. 1 singles matches. He beat Shorewood’s JD Drake 6-0, 6-3 on Oct. 11 and Snohomish’s Will MacDonald 6-1, 6-0 on Oct. 13.

Chloe Seelhoff | Glacier Peak | Girls soccer

Seelhoff, a senior, scored twice and added an assist in the Grizzlies’ 5-0 win over Mariner on Oct. 14. She’s scored 14 goals and chipped in 10 assists while helping lead the Grizzlies to an 11-1-0 start this season.

Julian Thomas | Cascade | Football

Thomas, a junior, racked up season-high 307 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 16.2 yards per carry in the Bruins’ 55-14 win over Shorewood on Oct. 15. It was the second time Thomas has ran for over 200 yards in a game this season.

Jemma Wilcox | Edmonds-Woodway | Girls cross country

Wilcox, a senior, finished in first place at the four-team Edmonds School District XC Championships meet on Oct. 13 at Ballinger Park. She finished the 4,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 43.7 seconds.
