Polk served as the Everett School District’s athletic director for nearly 17 years, providing leadership for the district, Wesco and the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association from 2004 until his unexpected passing in April of 2021.
A 1984 graduate of South Kitsap High School, Polk played football at the University of Puget Sound where he was an NAIA All-American as a tackle. Polk worked in coaching, teaching and administration at high schools around western Washington, and he was the athletic director at Olympic High School when he was hired by the Everett School District.
During his tenure Polk was recognized for his leadership, both in the school district and beyond. Among the positions he held include president of the Snohomish County Basketball Officials Association, president of Northwest District One, and president of the Washington State Secondary Athletic Administrators Association (WSSAAA).
In 2015 Polk received two prominent awards for his work. He was given the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s Award of Merit, and he was named the WSSAAA Athletic Director of the Year.
Polk was posthumously inducted into the WSSAAA Hall of Fame earlier this year.
