EVERETT — A second victim was found Wednesday after a Christmas night fire in south Everett, fire officials said.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, the Everett Fire Department responded to multiple calls about a fire coming from one of the units in a four-plex apartment building in the 9800 block of 3rd Avenue SE, according to the department.

Firefighters found one person dead at the time.

Initially, no other injuries were reported. But investigators received conflicting information about how many people were in the apartment, according to the fire department.

So they went back Wednesday and reportedly found an additional victim on the top floor under extensive fire debris.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased as well as determine the cause and manner of their deaths. Investigators don’t believe criminal activity played a role in the fire.

The exact cause remained under investigation Wednesday.
