Fire crews rescue woman from ravine near Mukilteo

MUKILTEO — First responders helped save a woman after a 30-foot fall down a ravine near Mukilteo on Saturday night.

The response began around midnight off Marine View Drive and 116th Street SW, according to South County Fire. Eight units responded to the scene, department spokesperson Shawneri Guzman said. Crews used ropes to send a firefighter down to the woman, a process that took about 40 minutes.

Once she was reached, firefighters began to pull her up, which took another hour. The woman was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett in stable condition and was talking with first responders throughout the rescue, Guzman said.

The woman had injuries to her shoulder and arm.

“She was very lucky she wasn’t hurt worse, it was not a straight fall, it was more of a slide,” Guzman said. “That’s what really saved her from more injury.”

The rescue was complicated by the darkness and involved a lot of moving parts.

“That in itself is difficult because you’ve got a lot of personnel for a job like that,” Guzman said. “Ultimately we’re trying to rescue someone but we’re also trying to keep our firefighters safe so that everybody gets to go home at the end of the night.”
