EVERETT — A man broke into an Everett train car, sprayed the inside with a fire extinguisher, and smashed open emergency tool and medical supply bays, according to a police report filed in court this week.
Around 2 a.m. Sept. 9, a man went through a Sounder train at Everett Station, according to the police report.
Security reportedly caught the Seattle man breaking into the train.
Officers arrived to find the man, 27, lying down on the floor of the train.
In a police interview, the man reported climbing up the engine and finding a door between the engine and the first passenger car, according to the report.
The man reportedly grabbed sledgehammers and axes from inside the bays and went around smashing different windows to try to get out of the train.
“It almost seemed like he was bragging,” officer Lance Clifford wrote in his report.
The entire car was covered in fire extinguisher dust, according to police. Windows to a sliding door were damaged, with one completely smashed out. Security was worried the train would have to be taken out of service indefinitely.
The train was repaired that day, however, and Seahawks fans were able to use it to get to the game Sunday, Sound Transit spokesperson David Jackson said.
The estimated cost of the damage totaled $9,300, Jackson said.
Police arrested the man for investigation of second-degree burglary and first-degree malicious mischief.
Bail was set at $5,000. The suspect remained in the Snohomish County Jail on Friday.
