Everett Council, Pos. 6: Bader dedicated to Everett

Regarding a recent letter to the editor regarding the race for Position 6 of the Everett City Council:
As a recent candidate myself, I know that sometimes letters to the editor include distortions and exaggerations, but the letter in question goes beyond that, and deserves correction:
The letter laments “The candidate’s appalling acceptance of contributions …” This is not true. The letter writer is an experienced candidate and her day job is working for another. She must know that (as The Herald article explained) the contributions were independent expenditures made in support of his candidacy, and not contributions to his campaign. By law and regulation, the candidate has no say in these independent efforts, and is not aware of them in advance.
In this case the expenditures are made by (among others) the folks who actually create and fund the projects that build the housing that we so desperately need. They’ve invested in Everett and Snohomish County and are focused on issues such as public safety, affordable housing, and the financial health of the city.
Scott Bader is a person of great integrity, and has demonstrated his dedication to what’s best for all of Everett over nearly a decade of previous service on the City Council. He’s endorsed by Mayor Cassie Franklin, Everett Firefighters, Everett Police Officers Association, County Prosecutor Jason Cummings, and many current and former elected officials and community organizations.
Yes, as that letter stated, the people of Everett are no-nonsense. That’s why I expect they will reject this bit of nonsense, take a close look at both candidates, and appreciate the value of Scott Bader on the Everett City Council.
