The Athlete of the Week nominees for April 1-7. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper.

Jada Sarrys | Lake Stevens | Girls Track and Field

Sarrys, a senior, was part of four victories as the Vikings topped Kamiak 114.5-35.5 in a Wesco 4A meet on March 28. Sarrys won the 100 meters (12.53 seconds) and 400 (1:00.82), then anchored Lake Stevens to victory in the 400 (50.47) and 800 (1:46.95) relays. Sarrys won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for March 25-31 by claiming 616 (33.01%) of 1,866 votes.

This week’s nominees

Stephen Anderson | Mariner | Boys Track and Field

Anderson, a junior, won the 110-meter hurdles (15.51 seconds), 300 hurdles (42.51), triple jump (40 feet, 3 1/2 inches) and anchored the victorious 400 relay (45.92) in a meet against Monroe and Shorewood on April 4.

Rylie Gettmann | Shorewood | Girls Tennis

Gettmann, a junior, defeated North Creek’s Avika Arora, who placed fourth at the Class 4A state tournament last year, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 at No. 1 singles on April 2, leading the Stormrays to a 6-1 victory over the Jaguars.

Shane Nelson | Marysville Pilchuck | Baseball

Nelson, a senior, blasted a go-ahead grand slam home run that stood up as the winning runs in a 5-3 win over Stanwood on April 2, giving the Tomahawks their first victory of the season.

Caleb Peter | Kamiak | Boys Soccer

Peter, a senior, had a goal and two assists as the Knights defeated Jackson 4-0 on April 3.

Rachel Sysum | Jackson | Softball

Sysum, a senior, went 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBI in the Timberwolves’ 15-0 victory over Arlington on April 3. Sysum’s homer was the 31st of her high school career, which set a new school record.
