EVERETT — A 48-year-old Edmonds man was booked on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly assaulting two employees at a massage business on Sunday in Edmonds.
Around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, police say the suspect entered the Eva Spa Massage business at 9726 Edmonds Way, where one of the victims recognized him as a previous customer, according to an Edmonds Police Department social media post. Video evidence obtained by police shows the man entered the business and locked the door.
The suspect assaulted one victim with his fist and a backpack as she retreated into a room where the second victim was working with a customer, court documents said. The suspect used a metal coat rack to strike both victims, according to police.
The suspect followed both victims as they escaped outside and continued the assault before fleeing on foot when he realized 911 was called, the post said. Responding officers found both victims unconscious.
The male customer was not injured. During an interview with police, he said the suspect said something along the lines of “you’re the reason why my buddy is in jail” during the assault, court documents said.
Multiple witnesses told officers that the suspect had fled on foot to a parking lot of a business complex across the street. Officers found the suspect outside a Walgreens wearing gloves with blood dripping from them, the post said.
While being handcuffed, the man said unsolicited, “I’m very displeased that I didn’t kill those ladies, but I just couldn’t do it. I couldn’t do it. I didn’t even bring a blade,” according to court documents. Officers found a Leatherman knife in the suspect’s pocket during a search of his person.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder and two counts of unlawful imprisonment.
First responders transported both victims to the hospital for treatment of multiple lacerations and injuries to the face and head. The motive for the attack is under investigation, the post said.
If someone was in the area and believed they saw the suspect leaving the business, they can call 425-407-3999 or email policetips@edmondswa.gov, the post said.
