EVERETT — Two Gold Bar residents died in a two-vehicle collision at Stevens Pass that closed the eastbound lanes for around five hours Sunday afternoon.
Around 1:03 p.m. Sunday, troopers responded to reports of a crash on eastbound U.S. 2 near milepost 64, according to a Washington State Patrol press release. A 2018 Subaru Crosstrek was traveling west in the second lane when it lost control and crossed into the eastbound lane, troopers said. The Subaru was struck by a 2002 Ford F-150 traveling east in the first lane before both vehicles came to rest on the eastbound shoulder, according to the press release.
First responders pronounced David Kaseburg, 46, and Dakota Pickens, 17, of Gold Bar, deceased at the scene, the release said. The uninjured driver and the passenger, who sustained undisclosed injuries, of the Ford were both transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
Around 6:32 p.m., troopers reopened the eastbound lanes, according to a social media post from Washington State Patrol spokesperson Kelsey Harding.
Speeds too fast for the conditions were a factor in the crash, the release said.
