EVERETT — One person was killed in a house fire Friday night in Lake Stevens.
Firefighters responded before 7:30 p.m. on Friday after receiving multiple reports of black smoke and a loud explosion from a home in the 3800 block of 109th Avenue off Granite Falls Highway, according to a social media post from Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue. Callers reported that someone may still have been inside the home, the department said.
Columns of smoke could be seen from miles away as crews from Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue and Snohomish County Fire District No. 4 responded to the scene, according to the department.
Firefighters arrived to find the two-story home engulfed in flames, the department said.
The extent and intensity of the blaze made the initial response more challenging, according to the post on Facebook. An exterior assessment of the home determined there was heavy fire on both levels of the home with “no survivable space remaining inside,” the department said.
Fire crews switched to a defensive strategy to contain the fire and protect neighboring homes, the post said.
Firefighters found one person dead inside during a search of the home, according to the department. No one else was hurt.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal is investigating what caused the fire.
